| - The spice levels are what stand out here.
"How spicy would you like it? We have 1-5"
"5", I say.
"5?"
"Yes"
"The spice levels are described on the menu. 5 says PAIN"
"Yes please, I'd like it like that"
"Oookayy..."
It turned out that he was appropriate in politely questioning my choice, because it's true, 5=PAIN. This place is unusual in Madison because they really mean it when they say spicy.
When handed the food, I got a helpful explanation about how to mix/put it together for maximum benefit (it was takeout).
The meat had a great texture and was very well seasoned. I couldn't say much about the flavor because I accidently got it so damned spicy that I couldn't taste much.
The heat was awesome and made me kind of giddy, but I recommend not going up to 5 if you want to actually taste the food.
I don't mind the "nickel and dime-ing" thing that others talk about, because those extras do cost money. I'd rather pay for it only if I want it, than pay more for everything overall, regardless of whether I take it or not, because it's part of the overhead.
When dining in, the addition of all those little sides make it a better and more authentic meal. Those are really the heart of Korean Cuisine.
