  • What an GREAT experience from start to finish (well, as great as one can hope for given that a family member was ill). No need to get into the specifics of who was ill or with what, but basically everyone here was pretty awesome: The front desk clerks who patiently answered our questions before we arrived and when we got there; the nurses/medical assistants who did triage and some quick on-site treatment; and last, but not least, Dr. Eisa. Dr. Eisa quickly identified what was wrong, patiently explained what needed to be done (even demonstrating with charts and pictures), and then outlined a course of treatment. We asked a ton of questions, and she answered them all without ever making us feel like she had somewhere else to go. Honestly, I wouldn't mind having her as a primary care physician. Now, we were lucky: The clinic wasn't busy when we arrived. She probably had a bit more time to chat than usual. And who knows how the other docs and PA's are. But honestly, everyone here was so nice and helpful that, even if they were slammed, I still think they'd try to devote as much attention to patients as possible. As others have noted, another upside is how bright, open, clean and modern the waiting room is. Lots of yellows to lift spirits, plus big, comfortable chairs. (Also: A Starbucks is right across the parking lot, so if the wait were long, I'd probably go grab something there to kill the time.) One teeny tiny complaint: The TV is just hooked up to a not very great digital antenna, which meant the channels cut in and out. It didn't matter to us because we waited maybe three minutes. But if anyone in charge of the clinic reads this, maybe consider the $25/ month for cable? (#FirstWorldProblems, I know.) Urgent cares in Las Vegas rightly have a reputation as, well, awful: Most I've been to or heard about treat patients like cattle--herding them into cramped, lifeless waiting rooms only to get about 90 seconds' worth of "treatment" from doctors or PAs. I once went to Galleria Urgent care and the doctor listened to me for 30 seconds, stopped me mid-sentence, said he was giving me an anti-biotic, and then left the room. (I am not exaggerating.) But Urgent Care Extra is the exactly opposite of all that. We've been to their location on Eastern, about a year ago, and everybody there was just as great.) I don't mean to disrespect any of those here who had bad experiences here. Even the best places stumble; all it takes is one staff member having a really bad day to make a patient's experience awful. Going to a quick or urgent care center is never going to be exactly like going to a trusted doctor's office where everyone knows you (though, honestly, in Vegas, a lot of the regular docs are pretty horrible.) But based on my two visits to two different Urgent Care Extras, I think your odds of having a good experience here are a lot better than at a UMC or other quick care. Fingers crossed they keep up the good track record. And for anyone else still reading this...sorry for rambling!
