| - I live in Los Angeles, the home to much (good and bad) Mexican food. We have tacos made out of cabeza, lengua, tripas, al pastor, carnitaas, carne asada, chicken and fish. Ground beef tacos are hard to find. And that's how I came to Sylvia's, starving for the taco of my Phoenix childhood. It did not disappoint, though the iconic taco of my youth is the ground beef taco from a little place that was called Que Pasa on 7th street and Glendale. RIP, Que Pasa.
The service at Sylvia's is efficient and no-nonsense, and the serve-your-own-salsa bar is great. They have a sign that begs you to limit your servings to just one, but how can you when the chips and salsa are so good? Fish tacos were great, too. Grilled, not battered and fried like LA fish tacos. I never thought I'd go back to my roots after tasting carne asada tacos from a taco truck, but sometimes a ground beef taco just hits the spot.
