| - Tonight was my one year anniversary with my girlfriend. We wanted a safe bet for good food, we are big fans of the Gladly, and were willing to pay a larger bill. Sadly we only achieved the later. I am hoping this was an off night as all the other reviews were rather strong.
First we were presented with the Summer menu, which being October should have been the Fall menu.
We had the tuna and peaches on the appetizer list. The tuna was really good 8/10 - slight fishy taste, but hey its Arizona. The sea is far away. The baked peach salad was pretty bad though. The lettuce and bacon was ok, but the peaches were hard as rocks. Its a dish we have all done and if you have peaches a little less than ripe you can usually wing it, but these were solid like a rock. They were most likely very apt for the Summer menu, but as it is Fall, peaches are no longer in season.
We ordered the scallops as our main. I'm a big scalop guy, but these were undercooked and leveled off with a huge pile of greens on top. The photograph of the scallops on yelp showed them with a deep brown sear. Ours were white with a hint of brown and pink in the middle.
I think the best part of the meal was true to scottsdale form, the cocktail. Extra strong which made my girlfriend a little more flirty.
We decided to cut our losses and go to a different restaurant. Frank and Alberts over at the Biltmore. If you want a really good dinner and ambiance you should check this spot out.
The meal came to $80, and we were charged an extra $8 for an extra scalop on the plate which we left behind as a casualty of a bad dining experience.
Moral of the story: if you are into the scottsdale drinking scene bring your date here they serve a strong cocktail, if you are into good food look elsewhere.
