| - Ok, so my quest for reasonably priced well done nails in the NW continues.
I noticed this place's ownership change hands in recent moths and the previous name of "Pearl Nails" has been replaced with "Chloe's Nails and Spa." I figured since I had a day off yesterday to stop in and see what they have to offer. I had a free evening minus the brats and figured this would be a great opportunity.
The owner herself approached me and gave me a consult, seeing the state of disrepair my nails were in after "Fantasy Nails" did their work, she recommended removing and starting fresh. This would cost $30! Wow what a great price for a new set of acrylics.
I agreed and thought that she would do the set herself, seeing as she wasn't doing anything, but she instead passed me on to someone working on a Shellac pedicure.
Now, here is where things go south. The girl working on the shellac pedi, comes to me and sets me up with an acetone removal, which I hate because it is so drying to the skin and cuticles. I didn't say anything and she let me soak for a good 20min before she came back and proceeded to work on me... AFTER SHE WAS MANHANDLING THE LADY WITH THE PEDI!!!! She didn't even wash her hands before she worked on me! So gross.
As I was soaking, I noticed her using a Dremmel Mini Drill on the lady with the pedi to remove the shellac! This is an awful practice, using a power tool on someones feet! I own a cordless mini nail drill, which you can purchase online which is much more gentle and accurate for removal of both shellac and artificial nails, in fact the right thing to do would have been to file MY nails down, and use an acetone soak for the Shellac! View http://www.youtube.com/w... for the best way to do that. This is a technique I use on my toes and it is much safer and easier on the natural nail.
The girl who was working on me, Nancy, was the sweetest thing, honestly I think she was trying really hard, with only 5 months experience, this barely merits someone with knowledge in this craft to be doing new sets for new clients, the bar has to be set, and unfortunately it didn't make the cut for me. All my nails were misshaped, some were really thin, others looked like Chicklets. She kept on asking if they were ok, and when I pointed out some were too thick or crooked, she tried her best to fix them but found that her english was relatively limited so she either didn't understand me or just couldn't fix her work.
The owner comes by and takes a peek and I point out some of the flaws and she agrees that they could have been done better and sits down and I think she is going to re-sand and even out the bad nails. NOPE she proceeds to file down the tips and takes off the corners of my nails! When I specifically asked that they remain a certain length. Now they look just about as bad as the ones from Fantasy Nails!
What a waste of an evening, $37 later and I am at home re-sanding and fixing the mess the owner made by trying to fix what Nancy did.
One star for the cleanliness of the place, I did see tools being sanitized and stored properly.
One star for prices and location.
Actually, I would like to point out that on the menu it says that French costs $5.00, I later found out that the $5 only is for a mani, not artificial sets. And she tacked on $5 for the old nail removal, when most shops don't charge you if you do a new set.
I will say that I noticed many of their clientele were in for pedicures, perhaps this is their forte.
On a final note this poor bride came in with her mom for a pedi for her wedding this weekend and one of the jet covers flew off and smashed the bride in the toe and cut it pretty bad, the bride was really sweet about it and didn't make a big stink but guess what? She was still charged! That just left a bitter taste in my mouth and unfortunately due to the practices I witnessed and went through, won't be back.
