  • Much needed and anticipated spa day with the girls for a bridal shower! The spa was a bit hidden and I walked right past it but I eventually found my way. Working at a spa for most of my life, I've had high expectations walking in. The entrance of the spa was very inviting and clean with a fountain at the front entrance and retail products/testers off to the side. I was greeted by a hostess which offered me a hot towel to wipe my hands (great way to begin the experience and a very nice touch to help start my spa day). The hostess walked me to an iPad and asked me to fill in all my medical history before giving me a fully detailed itinerary of all my treatments. She then directed me up the elevators to which I was to go to the change rooms to change into robes and slippers. Once I arrived on the second floor, I was greeted by another young women who lead me to the change rooms and offered me a robe and slippers, followed by a thorough tour of the amenities, lockers, washrooms and showers. The nice thing is that Elmwood uses Moroccan oil products in their showers and change rooms. They even have blowdryers and straighteners in the change rooms! They have a very nicely decorated sauna and hot tub in the change rooms. She also instructed me on how to use the lockers as she directed me to an empty locker. I met up with all the other ladies from the bridal shower and got changed. We headed towards the wet facilities that they had on a different level of the spa, which was a co-ed area. The water therapies that are included in this area are a swimming pool, hot tub, and steam room. All the girls went into the steam room to start off.. I sat in the steam room for a couple minutes and couldn't do it anymore. The steam room is definitely not for me as I felt really claustrophobic. Next, I sat in the hot tub and chatted, sat in the lounge chairs for a bit until it was time for our massages. We headed to another lounge area where we waited for our masseuses to come get us for our massages. I must say, I'm usually very particular when it comes to massages.. If you can get me to fall asleep during a massage, it means you're doing a great job. Mind you, this is coming from experience of being in the spa industry. None the less, I had a great massage, my therapist was great, but I think she did cut my treatment short. I ended up going into my treatment last and I came out first. That was a little disappointing but nothing to complain over. After our massages, we were offered tea as we headed towards the restaurant to have lunch. We all went into the restaurant in our comfy robes which was super relaxing. We were greeted by a very polite gentlemen who already had our table ready. He offered us water, bread, and gave us a minute to look over our menu. The menu had a set 3-course meal which was included in our package. I decided to go with the Parmesan Custard as my appetizer. I thought this dish was delicious with just the right amount of custard, mushrooms, and vegetables (probably my favourite out of all 3 courses.. surprisingly). I had the short-ribs for my main. This dish was enormous and was served with chinese broccoli and frites. I thought this was a weird combination but it all tasted okay. The short-ribs were tender, frites were good, and chinese broccoli was cooked nicely. Because the portion size was so large, I only got through half the plate. For dessert, I had the S'mores Fondue. Again, the portion size was enormous and was a little disappointed with the dessert itself. The chocolate was just mediocre and the marshmallow was roasted, but still cold. The graham crackers that came with it was just meh! After lunch, we all went back to the change rooms, got dressed and headed to check out at the front reception. The whole check-out experience was seamless and everyone that worked there was super accommodating and friendly. One of the employees even helped us take a couple of photos at the end. Overall, I'd say the food was just okay, I don't think I would come back for that but the experience itself was by far a very relaxing one. I highly recommend coming here for a spa day and I will definitely come back to visit in the near future.. Namaste.
