  • The main reason I went to Criss Angel Mindfreak was because I'm a huge fan of the Cirque du Soleil shows and I'm trying to watch all of the ones available in Vegas. Having already seen five of the other Cirque shows on the Strip (everything except Zumanity basically), I have to say that Mindfreak is my least favorite so far. It's kind of all over the place: some acrobatics, illusions/magic, live music, laser show, clips of the old Mindfreak show, and inserted comedy bits. It has it moments and his greatest illusions are still pretty mindblowing to see in person and I thought the laser show part was super fun. On the other hand, I thought the comedy bits were fairly cringe worthy and pretty out of the place in the show. I do think that Criss himself is a pretty great performer up there on the stage. He likes to scream a lot like a rockstar and really cares about the safety of the performers on stage (personally calling out a lady in the audience for taking a video with flash). He did a LOT of tricks where he made someone/something appear or disappear from a box and that's pretty common at magic shows on the Strip but it was a bit excessive. I would have liked to see a better variety of tricks, things that other magicians don't typically do. Again, as a Cirque du Soleil show, it was very disappointing but as an entertaining Vegas-like show it was alright. Was hoping for the classic Cirque grandiose, acrobatic performances but I guess this is just a different kind of show.
