Yes - bread does get this delicious. This is hands down my fav Italian-style bakery in the downtown core. It's great for lunch or an afternoon treat, and while it's in the higher price range, it's totally worth it for the value. I really love the sandwiches, which are generous, filled with quality ingredients, and have a good balance of meats/greens/cheese. The sandwich bread itself is outstanding - very simple but tasty with a crackly crust and just the right amount of chewiness. The sprinkling of sugar/black pepper makes it even better! The product lineup is constantly changing so it's always a pleasant surprise to try what they have next.
The lovely scent of freshly baked bread wafts out into the street, but the bakery's basement location and industrial/functional vibe make it easy to miss the entrance. It's an open kitchen with a few spots at a central table but it's much nicer to enjoy the food in the parks nearby. They rock the catering scene as well and the focaccia/pizza and salads I had during a few events are also very well made.
