Family illness caused us to seek out pick up holiday meals. We chose AJs for Thanksgiving. The meal was around $200 for 6 people. The servings were generous. However, the meal was absolutely tasteless. The sides were like a brides first meal. Hunks of sweet potato, mashed potatoes, and large, seemingly fresh green beans with less taste than canned. The turkey had absolutely no taste at all. All of this was served with rolls which bore no resemblance to the marvelous bread available in AJs bakery, but were a version of those mass produced wonder bread rolls. The pie for desert was okay. The one bright spot was the cranberry sauce. It was crunchy (raw ?) and flavored with orange.
The dressing was chunks of multicolored bread with little else. Again no taste.
A glutton for punishment, we ordered the prime rib for Christmas. Again the portions were generous. The meat was great. It had been partially cooked, so preparation was quick. However, the scalloped potatoes didn't heat through, although we followed instructions. Guests said the best part of the meal was the shrimp cocktail we added. We ordered cranberry sauce, but it wasn't delivered.
Next time we'll order the prime rib ( they do have the best meat in the area) and add baked potatoes and our own sides. Do get a cake or pie from the bakery...they are delicious.
