Don't miss if you like Thai.
Reservations and Service - I was concerned after reading other reviews but we had a super experience. I called at 5:30 on a Friday and was told to call back 20 minutes before we arrived so a table could be held. I called at 6:10 and was told that we should be able to be seated at or a few minutes after 6:30. We arrived and were immediately seated. By 7 all of the - maybe 9 - tables upstairs were full.
Atmosphere - I liked the cute eclectic style in the old building. Everything seemed clean and fun with mismatched chairs and lamp shades not overdecorated or sleek yet several steps up from a hole-in-the-wall ethnic.
Food - we had an hour to eat and quickly ordered 2 entrees - Pad Thai which was delicious and I think more authentic than I usually see in Pittsburgh with a very light clear (not red) sauce with the noodles almost dry. This is my preferred style of Pad Thai. The Drunken noodles were delicious with very wide - almost square - noodles of the perfect silky texture and generous almost crispy vegetables in an almost clear sauce that did not puddle on the plate. The sauce was a touch more greasy than I would have preferred but less so than other similar dishes I have had at other places. We ordered spice levels 4 and 5 and could see the chili peppers in the sauces - delicious but not so mouth burning that I had to gulp water. The Thai Iced Tea was smoky - lapsang souchong probably - and interesting, the Ginger tea was strong. The quality of the food was outstanding - fresh and well-prepared with flowery carrot garnish. The servings are not large though I'm sure quite calorific - again this is several steps up in quality - so if you are Pittsburgh-hungry then order a couple appetizers along with your entree.
I spied many interesting appetizer plates that look like they'd be fun to share. Maybe next time of which I hope there will be many.
