A couples/newlyweds gameshow event slated for 7 p.m. in NOW Magazine (Fri Feb. 6) gave us incentive to try this place. Other reviews noted this place is a good venue so I'd come back another day. Unfortunately while my BF and I were there our waitress -- with a great sense of humour by the way -- and the manager (?) were setting up when we were leaving around 8 p.m.
However, it was a comfy atmosphere with candlelight as soon as we walked in. There were booths but we got seated beside the bar with Food Network playing above our heads.
There is a daily special or two that changes everyday which is worth looking into and I ordered Pasta of the Day. It was a perfectly-portioned Spaghettini with Mushrooms, Double-Smoked Bacon(!) in a Sage Cream Sauce. As soon as I heard it, i thought of this wicked tarragon sauce on Chopped on a pasta and sounded like heaven to me. The taste? DIVINE! Heck I could've had another half-bowl but I was so stuffed after a donut dessert from Timmies a little later I didn't eat until lunch the next day. The waitress did say either tarragon or their sage creamy sauce would work. $16.50 is alright for a pasta dish but WOW it was worth every penny!
BF got a "Beaver Burger" -- despite being a 6-ounce patty, the meat was cooked perfectly. Add $3 for cheddar cheese and THICK bacon. Substituted a poutine on the side for $3. So BF decked out $18-and-change but was so satisfied, also didn't eat the next day (and proceeded to call me a fat ass...)The poutine could have used a bit more gravy and cheese curds but was so necessary for this meal.
Great selection of beer. Pint of Beaver Lite ($6.20) tasted better than a Canadian/Coors/Lite anything naturally and I got a Shock Top ($6.95 -- totally wish I got their Beaver White instead) So all in all our bill came up to $58 with tip, one of the more expensive couple meals I've had but why not since Shmalentine's Day is coming.
Still have Karaoke Thursdays, Shows on Friday and Saturday Nights followed by DJ dances. Bottom of receipt says "Delicious brunch Sunday 10am-3pm, Afternoon T Dance 4pm-7pm" Great place for a date in my opinion :)
