This is a great way to get a good view of Pittsburgh. It's fun to see the old rail system work. I prefer the Monongahela Incline just because of the way it has the "stepped" cars, but this is fun too. It's also interesting to see how inefficient the old system of manual ticket taking is. My friends and I were the only people there and it took about 10 minutes for the ticket taker to process us all even though everyone had exact change. So be prepared for a wait. But that's just an observation, not a complaint.
The view from the top is amazing. It's an easy walk from Station Square to the incline if you don't have a car...less than a mile. A fun thing to do might be to take the Duquesne incline up, then walk along the top of the hill and go back down the Monongahela Incline. This is a must if you're in Pittsburgh.
