| - Was visiting Pittsburgh and a good friend took me here. I like Condors, so I was pretty excited.
We walked in and got our stamps, decided to get some food. 2 pizza slices, 2 drinks, and mac and cheese for $12, which for a place like this, isn't bad at all.
After eating we went into the Rainforest room. I thought the birds were going to be in cages! 4 of these big blue birds were just walking around, right in front of us! I had to leave the room and then come back in after I regained my composure. After some smooth talking by my friend I went back in, and decided to clutch his hand when I got scared. I didn't know I was afraid of birds, lol. We heard a lot of birds make weird sounds, got super close to other ones and watched one pick up a leaf that was far too big for it's head. It ended up being a super cool experience for me.
After we walked through all of the open rooms, saw some of the bigger birds that were in their own sanctuaries, like the Sea Eagle and Bald Eagles and got a peak at the sloth, we found my favorite part. BABY OWLS! If you walked too fast you might not think they were anything. Behind glass and in these little cups were the cutest/ugliest little burrowing owl chicks. One was looking RIGHT at me. The other two must've been hungry because they were biting at their cups and trying to move. So cute.
The end of our visit was spent watching Happy the penguin eat a few fish. The penguin exhibit was under construction so they brought him out. A few kids tried to grab at him, lol.
All in all, I'd go back again. I got to see my condors and some other cool birdies, all without getting pooped on. That's a win for me!
