Things change... not necessarily better.
Year or so ago they were Retail Baker of the Year.
Not any more.
Cases and cases of whipped cream and icing calories. Empty calories, without any taste.
Burnt Almond Torte Cake: sugar. sugar. fat. fat. Get the point: this place is not good for you; calories and fat. Too much pudding between layers. It has changed from my last visit (over a year ago).
Between Giant Eagle, Moio's and Prantl's, I would place Oakmont Bakery dead last for the Burnt Almond Torte.
Snickerdoodle cookies: terrible. Pasty in the middle. Tasted like a commercial bakery mix. Ate one; threw two away. Nasty.
Not the old Oakmont Bakery. Shame. That's what often happens to a very successful business.
So I complain. What do I suggest? Try LaGourmandine French Bakery on Butler Street in Lawrenceville.
What's the difference?
You could equate the products at LaGourmandine to fine jewelry at the best shop in town. Oakmont Bakery now is the mass-production factory specializing in empty calories.
I am not thrilled by this review. Oakmont Bakery was the standard a few years ago. That is no longer true... and it is a shame. Maybe it is all about the money?!
