  • I remember shopping at Sherway when I was younger. I liked in south Etobicoke and Sherway was a great family mall for a working class community. The community hasn't changed as I still keep in touch with friends and family in the area. What has changed for the WORSE is Sherway Gardens. As has every other mall, Sherway over the past number of years has jumped on board with a first class ticket on the plane to PRETENTIOUSNESS; it is a trend. There was a time where I could shop at Sherway, where everyone could shop at Sherway because the stores were affordable, the stores you actually knew and the prices decent. That has gone COMPLETELY to the wayside when they tried to to this downtown Toronto thing (where it actually works but not here) and open Holt Renfrew. Shortly after that store was built and a new wing opened, people started using the mall more and more for exercise, for walking, for getting out. More expensive stores over the years have been added, stores that many, if not most Canadians would not have heard of and THEY ARE NOT CHEAP. That brings us up to date and the opening of Saks. Here's the best thing. Observe the clients who walk around Sherway. The mall has become so expensive, so pretentious that the majority of people do not carry any shopping bags from stores in the mall. It's too expensive for the area of town. Also, strangely enough, the parking at Sherway is a disaster. The mall has completely inadequate parking but will be just about full and let again, the patrons of the mall are doing nothing except going out for a walk in the mall. It's become a terrible mall. Also, for those who need Accessibilty parking, and it's the afternoon, FORGET IT. The mall management has been taken up on this, and providing more Accessible parking spots, but has fallen on deaf ears. I actually hope that Saks Fifth Ave. finally sinks the mall financially. That's what you get for playing out of your league, while you no longer cater to the community who lives around you, a working blue class community while Sherway again to be said, jumps on the pretentious train. It's not worth your time to visit the mall - if you want an expensive shopping experience, fine but take it downtown where it actually works and is a much more enjoyable experience in say, Yorkville. Sherway has become a nightmare of retailers, and has made some serious Cardinal errors when it comes to retail management. Again, not worth the drive to Sherway Gardens.
