It's with a smile that the neatly hand painted yellow and black sign exclaiming "Farmers Market Today!" pulls me from the autopilot state that is my evening commute, and drops me square in the middle of one of Calgary's most authentic and adorable community based markets.
Tents with pickup trucks backed up to them carrying nothing but the freshest of fresh local produce, meat and miscellaneous baked goods make up this Wednesday 4-7 gathering. BC fruit and Bowden Farms, all the way down to inner city greenhouses, urban gardens and local apple trees - you know where your food is coming from and you can buy it from the people who got it there.
Once a week on Wednesday, The Hillhurst/Sunnyside Farmers Market is a little chicken soup for the commuter's soul. Pick up a bowl of hot home made chilli, take in the eclectic live music and pick up some home grown dinner fixin's, all while helping out your neighbours.
