  • Found this treasure while driving around downtown this morning. Hubby and I had time to kill, so we said why not let's go in there. Boy am I ever glad we did! It's open early at 6:30 am. Plus the parking meters don't require feeding until 8 am!!!! I am always leery of coffee at restaurants because it's so weak, it's so blah, and just doesn't have much body. Boy was I surprised at the coffee Albert serves.... It's an organic blend from Farmer Brothers, part of their Artisan Collection called Portland House. It's a medium roast with subtle hints of nutmeg - surprising and yummy!!! I ordered their regular breakfast of 2 eggs, American Fried potatoes, bacon, and English Muffin. Imagine my surprise when the food was delivered and the English Muffin was almost too hot to hold, when have you ever gotten a muffin that was not almost cold??? I was sold on Jim's right then and there!!! Plus the bacon was extra crispy as I ordered, and that too was HOT!! Imagine that!! The eggs were cooked as requested, over medium, and the potatoes were a great surprise with a nice seasoning and crispy. Hubby ordered the Southwestern Omelette. It consisted of REAL eggs, tomatoes, onions, jalapeƱos, and feta cheese. I was leery of the feta, thinking it would be too strong, but boy was I wrong!!! There was just enuf to give the omelette flavor, not overpowering the eggs or veggies. It was delicious and hubby loved, loved, LOVED it!!! Plus, even his English Muffin was hot, allowing the butter he loves to bathe it in, to melt into every nook and crannie!!! He was a happy "guest" Speaking of "guest", that is what Alberts calls his customers. He explained, we are his "guests" and should be treated as such. What a wonderful philosophy!! He is a wonderful, friendly guy who I watched greet his regular "guests" with hugs and smiles. And being newbies here, he made a point of welcoming us and we actually chatted for a few, as time allowed him, cuz the place was getting busy!!! Albert explains his place as Greek with a bit of Italian! The menu reflects this influence. There are soooo many wonderful entrees we want to try for both breakfast and lunch!!! Great place!!!
