| - Bikram. Beeeeekram! I have a love/hate relationship with this yoga style, but I decidedly have less love for it after visiting Bikram Yoga Las Vegas last night. Let us begin!
First of all, I had purchased a Groupon because my friend purchased one and I wanted some suffering/bonding time together, so that is how this journey to LV Bikram began. We showed up last night about 30 minutes before class to check in and the front desk lady, along with the instructor, Jordan, were both very nice and encouraging. Redeeming the Groupon was not an issue at all, paperwork was quick, there was a little one on one conversation about our experience(or lack thereof) with Bikram and some humor. I can appreciate all of that. I really can.
The front desk area, the hallway leading to the locker rooms, and the locker rooms themselves are fabulous. The women's locker room is clean, spacious, and inviting. I was like "dude, this is awesome. I can totally get behind this". This is where my support for this facility ended, though. Sadly.
We decided to enter the yoga room 15 minutes before, to lay out and question our life decisions, but before said questioning could take place we were hit with a stench so offensive that I nearly called it a night right then and there. My fellow hot yoga warrior and I gave each other "the look". You know "the look" you and your friend give each other that is like a secret language? Yeah.
"The look" first asked "WTF is that smell?" and then said "We are potentially going to die and not from the heat or the postures but the smell".
Look, I get it, people are sweating balls up in here, but really? This was bad. I attended Bikram in Reno once and it did NOT smell like this. Not even close. There is body odor and then there is just repulsive. Just no.
We did get through the class, which was tough but doable. It felt a lot hotter than the Bikram class I had taken before and there was definitely some tough love by the instructor(which I actually don`t mind and it wasn't directed at me, so there is that). I did feel nauseated by the smell from time to time and really had to mentally steel myself to get through the 90+ minutes in there. Savasana at the end? WTF is that? No. Get out of the room and quickly. Escape! It was like a prison break.
My advice? If you are sensitive to smell, do not come here. That room needs some serious deep cleaning and by deep cleaning, I mean they should just burn down that entire room and start over from scratch. If you don`t mind the smell of years of crusted butt cheese, by all means.
Like I said, everyone was rad, but my goodness, I just cannot even. CANNOT EVEN!!
