| - Before I begin, I want to say that I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience. It was really, really great.
It was weird! But in the best way. No negative connotations should be inferred from the word 'weird'. I ordered oysters and asked for horseradish and Tabasco as they do on the gulf shore, and the server said, in a very well mannered way, that they do not have those condiments. I was disappointed. Then the oysters came and the condiment was some kind of lavender concoction. I thought 'what is this stuff?'. Answer: condensed angel tears. Freaking phenomenal. What have I been doing to my oysters all this time? So much wasted potential. Much shameful. Very regret. Wow.
Then I ordered the salumi. Tasty, but I've had that before. Top notch, but like I said, this was not 'weird' and therefore, slightly less memorable. That being said, if you like salumi this is the best place for it in the area I know of.
Main courses were rib eye and duck. My wife had the latter. My rib eye was the most ridiculously 'weird' thing I have eaten in a long time. I ate every bite. I wish I could cook like that. The server put some oil or sauce or something on it. He told me what it was but I was 2 or three 'bourbon' mixed drinks in (also really good) and I cannot remember what it was. Similarly, I don't remember the contents of the main course although I remember the flavor/textures. This is the sour/crunchy stuff that is the sweet/smooshy stuff. It also had a sesame oil flavor that was pervasive. Lastly a 'slow cooked egg'. What is that? Answer: ambrosia stolen from the cup of god. Okay, perhaps hyperbole but you understand.
All I can say is if it were less pretentious, I would walk in and yell 'surprise me!', and eat what ever was brought to me until I needed a wheelbarrow to take me to my special uberX flatbed I had worked out a month in adavance.
TL:DR: weird and awesome.
