Wife complained about a ticking sound on her 2007 Yaris. Went to a local mechanic in North town where they claimed it needed a valve adjustment for $440. After a little research, found out that you don't do valve adjustments on a 2007 Yaris. Ok. Went to different mechanic who insisted it was the alternator, needed a new one pronto to the tune of $675. Hmmm, still didn't sound right so I found Japanese Car Service on Yelp and decided to take it to them based on all the good reviews of their honesty and quality.
Long story short, there was nothing wrong with the valves or the alternator. They did a thorough inspection with a test drive and found that the water pump needed a little tightening, everything else was fine. Total cost? $43 for a half hour of labor.
Thank you Japanese Car Service for being one of the good guys. A competent, honest mechanic is hard to find in this town. We've found one here and they'll be getting all my business going forward for the Yaris and my Mazda. Highly recommend.
