| - I was able to get a deal where they signed me up without the large initiation fee, so that was a pretty big plus. I had been a member of Fitness 19, but due to changing work commitments, I needed to find a new gym. I looked at several in the Robinson area including this place, Anytime Fitness and a few others. I chose LA because they gave me the best "bang for the buck". The monthly price was competitive with the other gyms, but the selection of services and equipment was far superior.
They have a pool, basketball courts (and even leagues), child care, spinning, aerobics, etc etc. That's the good.
The bad is that a lot of the cardio equipment is frequently broken. They also seem to have a lot of less popular cardio machines taking up space that might be better used by additional treadmills and elipticals. Due to the high demand for cardio equipment, they put a 20 minute limit on the use of the cardio machines. Problem is, a lot of people disregard that and it's not uncommon during peak times to have 4 or 5 broken treadmills with the others are stacked three people deep behind a soccer mom "speed-walking" for 30 or 40 minutes.
They have a lot of personal training options, but I find them to be prohibitively expensive in comparison to their competition (although I will say that, on average the trainers here seem to be a little more up-to-date with their techniques and knowledge).
The weight area is well stocked with dumb-bells and has a lot of what you would expect in terms of machines, but they only tend to have one of everything and again, it's not uncommon to have your workout held up by "that guy" doing curls in the squat rack.
Over-all, if you know exactly what you need in your work out and can find times where that equipment is readily available, it's an ok gym. If you're looking for much more than that, you could have some issues.
