  • I took my car in for a standard tire rotation and oil change last week at the 45,000mi mark. I was on time for my appointment and greeted by a very sweet and friendly woman who walked me into the service room. I was asked if I'd brought my car here before, (yes, for my last oil change a year ago) and he started about his normal checklist. He asks which car is mine and I say, "The Chevy Cruze." He said, "What color is that, grey? It's so dirty!" and laughs. Okay first of all, my car is dark blue, and we live in the desert and have had rain the last two weeks, every car is dusty but it's not like I went off-roading. Additionally, the road dirt wasn't so completely caked on that the color was distorted from blue to grey and what's more, why would I wash my car before taking it to be serviced when I know it'll be washed for free before I take it home? I found his 'joke' to be in poor taste. Then he turns to me and says, "So, you're at 45,000mi now but you've missed two big tune-ups at 30,000mi and 35,000mi so, do you want to do those now?" and I said..."No, look at my file. I moved here a year ago from Orlando, I'm sure my work at the dealership there will show up." and he went "Wait, wait, wait yes I see it now!" ...and this was just the start. I sign for $49.99 including tire rotation and oil change. The number at the bottom of the page reads "$63.99" (or something to that effect) so I question this difference. The guy goes, "Oh, our printer just does that, we can't figure out how to fix it. It'll be $49.99." He scratches out the $63.99 and circles the $49.99. Okay. He tries to up-sell me the recommended 45,000mi service. I decline, no big deal. An hour later he calls me in to replace a windshield wiper and A/C filter. I decline, no big deal. I'm called back in and he asks for my method of payment and tells me the total: $57.56. He does not show me the receipt. He does not walk me through the cost breakdown. He keeps the paperwork at his desk, runs my card and hands me a receipt to sign. But here's where it gets frustrating...I was told $49.99, right? My breakdown was, as follows: 5KB Basic Package: 19.95 + 6.84 (filter kit) + 27.90 (oil) = $54.69. The breakdown at the bottom read: $19.95 (labor) + 34.74 (parts amount) + sales tax (2.87) = $57.56. ...except that what I SIGNED FOR before service was done was for $49.99 and NONE of those numbers add up to that and no one could tell me why after I questioned the math. Now, the difference is minimal and I'm not here to nickel and dime, but I want my receipt to be an accurate representation of the services rendered and how much they cost! To be fair, for my troubles, the guy did offer me a free oil change when I came back. But it was scribbled on a business and I'm doubtful it will be honored in a year *if* I return. But the whole rigamarole wouldn't be complete if, when he was walked me to my car the guy did say, "Oh! It's actually blue. It's so clean now! ha ha ha."
