| - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
I wrote a review for Lifetime Moving and Storage a couple weeks ago but after being contacted by customer service and thinking my issue was resolved, I deleted it. However, my experience with this company since has been nothing but devastation and disappointment, so I hope to save others from going through the same experience I did. Initially, my experience was great. I received a job offer and needed to move quickly - within one week - and Amanda was able to schedule a pick-up of my items within this tight time frame. For moving from AZ to TX, the quote was very reasonable. She told me I could pay an additional $600 to guarantee an expedited delivery time but that in her experience, a move from AZ to TX takes only 2-7 days, so the expedited price would not be worth it.
The movers who packed my shipment were very professional. The nightmare began after that. After arriving in TX, I learned that my shipment would be arriving closer to 14 days after my arrival date. While I cannot complain about this, as I signed a contract stating delivery could take up to 21 days, I wish Amanda had not quoted me the 2-7 time frame; I would have paid the additional $600 for expedited guaranteed shipping.
Once my estimated delivery range was sent to me, I received a call from the trucking company contracted by Lifetime to carry my shipment. Here's something interesting that Lifetime does not advertise - while in another Yelp review, they say they provide door-to-door service, in my case, this was not true. They contracted the shipping to ProMovers out of Atlanta, GA. The ProMovers' representative, Jeremy, called me and told me there was a "small mechanical issue" with the truck and they would be arriving 3 days later. I asked if my items were fine and he said they were.
3 days later, my shipment did not arrive, so I called the driver of the truck. He gave me the number to his boss. When I called his boss (the same representative who called me 3 days earlier), he said there was a FIRE on the truck and now my delivery would be delayed 2 more days. Understandably so, I was very shaken - a fire?? Why had he told me there was a "small mechanical issue" when there was actually a FIRE? Jeremy told me that my shipment was the one closest to the cab and he did not think much was damaged, although some of my items may smell like smoke.
When my items were finally delivered, EVERYTHING WAS DESTROYED BY THE FIRE. The damage was so bad that ProMovers delivered my items to a storage unit that they paid for and every item on my inventory was listed as damaged by fire. The driver of the truck told us that ours was the second of three shipments and the woman to whom he delivered before us also had NO IDEA and was not given any communication that her items were destroyed, either. I immediately called Lifetime and spoke with John. John calmed me down and told me that we could file a claim directly with the trucking company and could claim damages for an amount greater than what Lifetime would offer, based on the contract I signed. ProMovers, a few days later, called with a quote of a little over $1,000. $1,000 to make up for COMPLETE DESTRUCTION of 95% of what I owned? Absolutely not. I called John again and he was appalled at the quote; he said he and his supervisors would discuss this with ProMovers, that this was the initial quote, and that ProMovers would call back with an updated quote.
Well, here I am over a week later and the ProMovers' quote has not changed. John at Lifetime has completely washed his hands of the situation, telling me that his "hands are tied" and there is nothing more he can do. So now I am sitting in an empty apartment with nearly everything that I owned having been destroyed in a fire and two companies that continually lied to me about the situation now doing nothing to rectify the situation. Lifetime will not even refund any part of what I paid. I am appalled at the lack of professionalism on both Lifetime and ProMovers' parts and am hoping that my review can save others the devastation and heartbreak of not only losing nearly everything you own but then having to deal with these two companies afterward.
UPDATE TO BUSINESS COMMENT: Yes, we contacted Nancy and the IAT claims department. In addition to being extremely rude (the claims department supervisor yelled at me, "Look lady, I'm not your little boyfriend so you can't talk to me that way"), they refuse to offer us a settlement greater than what Lifetime's claims department would. This is despite John telling us repeatedly that we could claim a greater amount with IAT than what Lifetime has in our contract. IAT has informed us that John is incorrect, has "lied" to us, and that the $1,000 settlement is their final offer. So yes, we contacted Nancy but IAT has not provided a resolution to this issue, so we are pursuing legal action.
