I really wanted to love the Flying Monkey. In fact, the first time I was here I really did! It's got a grunge to it that Tremont needs and when I walked in and heard metal playing over the speakers I thought "Oh cool! It's a metal dive bar- something different and something I can get behind." I've gone back a few times since and, sadly, my perception has changed.
They seem to have a solid crowd of regulars which is totally cool, but, if you're not one of them it takes an eternity to get a drink. While you wait you can listen to the bartenders long winded conversation with their friends while crying on the inside because you don't care. The most recent time I went, the guys sitting at the (uncrowded) bar noticed me standing next to them for an eternity and got the bartender (who kept skipping around me) to take my order. I don't think they were intentionally ignoring me but it's something that, in the service industry, they should be cognizant of. Very off putting when a group of bar patrons gives you better service than the staff. Unfortunately this isn't a sole staff member- it's pretty much all of them.
All in all a very bro-y bar. I had really high hopes for it and, yeah, I'll come back but there are other similarly priced bars in the area I'll stop by first.
