| - i decided to start making my own lotions and soaps due to my high allergy to commercial products and because I am becoming a licensed esthetician. I wanted to be able to perfect my art and sell specialized products to people who may also have sesitive skin...great idea right? So, I found this web site with these really reasonable prices. they were lacking in much needed products for making soaps and lotions. They sell absolutely NO preservatives..even natural ones which you can just add a .5% to of some such as grapfruitseed oil..no parabins or urea which hurt sensitve skin. Well, I looked past that and ordered. My first order was a couple pounds of shea butter for under
$6.00 each. I decided that it might be nice to add another butter to the shea such as coco butter. Well...you get what you pay for..including with service. The coco butter was so hard I had to use a butcher knife to get just a small amount out. I put it in the double boiler with some sweet almond ail and shea as my first batch was wonderful..coco could ONLY make it better right? NO I told their main manager and she said.."oh yea, that happens" and offered me a 10% off my "next" order as if there would be one!! I said well, living in California that would just about conver my tax...she did not care AT ALL. I said I would be placing my business with a competetor and she said "OK!" very chipper, just like "who cares about you or any other customer!" Please..If you want to make your own soaps and lotions DO NOT use Bulk Apothecary. They are extememly unorganized and rude. When expecting wonderful coco butter that comes out harder than ice,(and strange spots which they of course said was "normal') even after being exposed to the heat of the double boiler AND vegetable oil, it is hard to waste the money in these economic times. I am trying to SAVE money by buy ing everything up front, then saving hundreds, but if they can't get a natural unrefined coco butter correct, then truly, pay the extra shipping or couple extra dollars from more reputable companies. This is a true case of you get what you pay for and TERRIBLE customer service! I normally do not waste anytime with YELP comments let alone START one, but this is need to know info as so many of us are making our own products to save money and to be nicer to our bodies. I suppose if you want to by some essential oils or droppers from them..maybe a silicone soap mold you would be ok..just please know that they pride themselves on being natural, but my clear soap color additive was riddled with parabens so now I obviously wasted time with that. Another tip...the soap products they send you as 'raw materials" are the EXACT same thing Michaels has, they actually have more to chose from!! and no shipping...just a teenage cashier who rather be somewhere else...but I'll take that over paying $10.00 for them to ship me what Michaels already sells. Hope my warnings are helpful for those starting out in the "do it yourself' world of body care!! When I use the next company which sells EVERYTHIN you need, I'll write another comment..hopefully leading people to the correct place so they don't waste their money!
