| - Located right across from Pizzeria Bianco, Rose and Crown is an English pub themed bar right in the middle of Heritage Square.
The pub is in a cozy converted house whose decor is English football fan meets artsy acrylic paintings in homage to cool culture makers. I dig the decor, something of a pub meets dive type of feel with David Bowie or the guy from Clockwork Orange admiring me as I sip my beer amidst football fanfare. For a second, I really forgot I was in the heart of Phoenix. The other cool thing about the bar is that when you walk in, you can go left or right into two separate bar areas, so I imagine when games are on, rival fans do not have to hear each other bicker and this helps keep the peace.
Again, this is in my imagination, as we came in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday. Across the street the restaurant bustled while the vibe in the bar was pretty dead. We didn't mind and ordered the fish and chips off the $8 lunch menu. The fish was soaked in oil and I removed some of the breading to eat it. It tasted fine but I wouldn't order it again.
Overall, I'd be open to give the bar another chance, either to view some sports or during the weekend to catch some nightlife, and I'd also eat something first before coming!
