I got cash from their ATM machine but the machine failed to give me my card back. I called them the next day and was told by a very rude clerk that I could not speak to anyone at the branch and that they would not open the machine to retrieve my card due to "security issues." As a result, I had to cancel this bank card and re-order a new bank card which cost me $20 from my bank. It also took a week to arrive - something to consider, you probably don't want to be without cash and a bank card for a week.
I later contacted the credit union by email and was informed that when the ATM machine keeps a card it automatically shreds it. There seems to be some conflicting information as to whether this is true or not. The research I've done suggests that these machines do not have the technology to "shred" a card, but rather what happens is when the machine is opened to add cash (sometimes this is bank personnel, but if the machine is located outside of the bank building it probably is a 3rd party company), the cards that the machine has kept fall into a little basket of sorts, and the person servicing the machine simply shreds/disposes of the cards.
