| - Thanks to Yelp and the Pittsburgh CLO for recently giving some Yelp Elite folks free tickets to see The 39 Steps at the Cabaret Theater! I had not been to the theater in four or five years. Not only was I looking forward to returning, but I was soo excited to see the Hitchcock-inspired show.
Let's first talk about the five star entertainment - The 39 Steps! This four-actor comedy is quirky, ridiculous, goofy, and even a little sexy!! The actors do a wonderful job with this quick, dialogue-filled show. If you're a big fan of Alfred Hitchcock like myself, you'll particularly appreciate the multiple references to his movies. I highly recommend checking it out before it's gone in September.
Despite enjoying the show so much, the theater itself was disappointing. My table was ready to order food and drinks and kept trying to flag down a waiter or waitress. When a waitress finally stopped for us, we were rudely asked if we were a comp table. Yes, we received our tickets for free through Yelp and the CLO, what of it? We were then informed that staff is not booked based on comp tables and that someone would be over eventually. It made all four of us feel more like a nuisance than welcomed. The bar manager (I believe) came over a few minutes later and kindly took our orders. My other frustration with the venue is the seating. Though the cafe style is fun in theory, even my thirty year old back was in significant pain after sitting on those terrible plastic chairs for a couple hours. I kept shifting in my seat to get comfortable but did find my discomfort distracting from the show.
