| - This is a geeky awesome exhibit for those who love CSI. It is based upon the tv show "CSI" originally set in Las Vegas. For $30 (adults 12yo+; $23 kids 4yo-11yo; $75 family: 2 adults + 2 kids), you gain entrance and become a level one CSI.
There are three cases to choose from. You read the background of the case and decide which one you'd like to solve. Case 1 involves a car crashing through a house, Case 2 involves a woman found dead in an alley, and Case 3 involves a human skeleton found in the desert. You receive a CSI clipboard (not to keep but for sale in the gift shop for $10) and a form to help guide you through you tasks.
I picked Case 3. So the more specific details are what I got to experience but each case has different labs and tasks to complete.
Next you enter a debriefing room where Grissom gives you a run down of the cases and instructions. Then you go to your respective crime scenes. On your sheet of paper is a basic diagram of the crime scene. It's your job to make observations and notes of what you see.
Then you're off to the Labs (1 and 2) where you go to various stations. You learn more about ballistics, DNA, toxicology, impressions, and much more. You watch videos of the CSIs from the tv show and real life CSIs. You make notes on your sheet as you examine evidence discovering who the victim is and who your suspects are. You get to look through microscopes, check out real bullets and compare striation marks. The other cases had labs in blood splatter, toxicology and more. When you finish each lab, you can check in with the other CSIs (Nick, Warrick, Hodges, Sara, Catherine and Greg) to make sure you're making the right progress. You can even video record your own observations to share with others.
You finish your investigation in autopsy with Dr. Robbins as he gives you a run down of injuries and manner of death. The bodies are foam or skeleton so no gross-out factor. Don't forget to take notes because your last stop is a report to your supervisor Grissom.
You fill out your report based on the evidence you collected and analyzed and submit it to Grissom. Grissom gives you the story of what happened based on the evidence and you receive your very own CSI diploma sent to your email and/or available for purchase in the gift shop.
A new group of CSIs is taken in every 10 minutes. You get to move through the exhibit at your own pace. The concierge gave me an estimated time to complete is 30-40 minutes. But I had an awesomely geeky time and spent over an hour in the exhibit.
This is fun alone, in groups, in pairs or challenging your friends. My sister and I challenged each other seeing who could solve the case correctly. For me, it was well worth the $30 and I definitely will go back next time to try the other cases.
