  • After we adopted our dog Harold rather spur of the moment (he was found as a stray) we realized he needed to get him neutered and vaccinated ASAP, especially for the safety of our first dog. After a little investigation, we found the Spay Neuter Clinic and made an appointment. We called on a Friday and we're able to get him in for Monday-- they were very accommodating about fitting him in! When we brought him in, we filled out a variety of paperwork and questionaires. We didn't realize that on top of doing vaccinations and spay/neuter, Dr. Black also will check for hernias, ear mites, fleas, heartworm testing, teeth-pulling, etc. He also gives your dog a basic examination before surgery to make sure there are no pre-existing conditions that would make the procedure dangerous or high risk. The establishment is pretty bare bones to look at and upon first walking in, I raised half an eyebrow about where I was dropping my new pup off, but I was met with a healthy, relatively unpissed (God bless him, losing two testicles can't be fun no matter where it's done!) Harold on the other side. After going over Harold's information with us upon his departure, we paid (approx. $170ish for neuter, all vaccinations, heartworm testing and a nail clip) and departed. Harold's incision was minimal, simple and didn't make me cringe (the way Henry, our Bichon-poo's did when we had him neutered back in Philly). He also healed remarkably quick. The vet tech called the next day to follow up on how Harold was making out. All in all, we had a good experience. The one thing I will say is, that if you're looking for a little TLC from the nurse (as this can be a pretty traumatic experience for the owner, too!!), you will not get it from here. The prices can't be beat, especially when we all know how expensive it can get "starting up" a new pet.
