| - Due to illness, I lost about 90% of my hair. It was an enormous step, considering a wig, for someone with an organic/natural approach to life. I have almost always worn my hair long, parted in the middle, with bangs and always looked much younger (was asked for ID at 45 and 59) (heredity and decades of organic/juicing/Yoga/meditating?). I was also a businesswoman and fashion lover. I cared for my body, mind, spirit and appearance.
Vitiligo (white spots) began on my scalp in my 20's. Chunks of platinum streaked my long black hair. I loved it. The white/platinum eventually took over and I left it in its natural state. It was striking.
Once my hair fell out, it aged me and when I looked in the mirror I saw an ill person. It's amazing how much one's appearance can raise or lower one's mood.
I saw Michael at Continental and he was, as mentioned by others, pleasant and non-judgmental. I called regularly (I lived some distance from TO). When my wig arrived (much later than quoted) I was told I would need some styling; I explained that I had cut my own hair for 20 years, having had my fill of stylists who never listened to my requests, and asked for a stylist who would respect my wishes.
The colour was perfect, but the amount of hair was ridiculous, more than one could imagine on a human head. The stylist assigned to me began thinning my wig. It was difficult to see what was going on, but I noticed that one side was beginning to look very strange. He began working furiously trying to correct that side and when told his next appt. was waiting, he left hastily.
Once home and able to examine my wig, I noticed a thick brushcut over the entire wig where the stylist had chopped hair in the thinning process. When I tried it on, my heart sank as I discovered that the bangs on the odd-looking side had been cut so far back along the side of the wig it exposed the ridge of the wig base underneath.
I wrote to Michael and politely thanked him and his staff for their efforts but told him how badly my wig had been damaged, and sent photographs supporting my claim and asked that he respond.
I never heard from Michael again.
The cost, including travel, was in the $2,000 range. I took it to a wig specialist who confirmed the wig had been badly damaged and said that chopping, with a wig requiring this degree of thinning, is not appropriate, that the stylist lacked wig experience and that strategically pulling of the hairs is the proper approach.
I could accept the damage (or any honest mistake), with an apology and some attempt to rectify or refund, but I cannot recommend a business that would not even have the courtesy to acknowledge or respond to such a respectful, detailed description of that damage.
