  • Came here in pursuit of the famed Taiwanese treat, Brick toast/Cube toast, and I certainly wasn't disappointed! Although they opened later than I'd originally thought for a Thursday (2PM, wish I'd snapped a picture of the schedule so I could update the online one), once I was in, the service was pretty fast. There were board games, magazines (none in English, though) and little notecards on each desk displaying the Wi-Fi password. The staff was friendly, too. As for the cube toasts that I and my sister ordered, both were excellent (and huge). I got the red bean and taro one, in which the red bean part was delicious but the taro part tasted strangely of citric acid, as if it had come from a can or similar canister. Not terrible, just unexpected. The strawberry cube toast my sister got was also big and tasty-looking, served with ice cream inside and fresh fruit. I came to the cafe ravenous and left completely stuffed- and I'm no dainty eater! Be warned, these are not for the faint of heart. Don't think the toast is all that's available, though- there's cakes, tarts, waffles, ice cream and other sweets as well. Since this is a cafe, I should mention the drinks- unfortunately, if you come right at opening time, you'll have to wait 20-25 minutes for the tapioca to be made for bubble tea, so note that if you REALLY want a bubble tea. I decided to opt for just a regular milk tea flavoured with sesame, which was tasty but a bit too mild in sesame-ness for my tastes. Next time I'll definitely come at least an hour past opening to make sure they've got tapioca on hand, since there are at least 20 flavours available, not even including all the other types of drinks like smoothies and coffee beverages. I didn't get anything savoury, but there were a few options involving chicken and sausages, takoyaki, taro balls, fried sweet potatoes and onion rings amongst others. Perhaps a nice energy boost if you stick around to surf the web or play a board game. Overall, I definitely would like to come back to this place and try out some more of the gorgeous and delicious desserts as well as beverages. The convenient location adjacent to the AGO means that it's prime to satisfy your hunger after browsing some art, or just to visit when in the neighbourhood.
