First time trying this event after hearing that last year's was decent, and went in expecting an experience on the same level as CNE Rib Fest. Mistake #1.
Upon entry you are forced through a "security" check point whose sole function is to relieve you of any water you have brought yourself (is this even legal?!) so as to maximize profit for beverage vendors. Once the H2O Gestapo deem you fit for entrance you then need to wait in line to buy food vendor tickets, which is a normal festival thing, except here the first batch of 10 costs $15 and 'refills' of 10 thereafter cost $10 - the logic of why, beyond blatant profiteering, eludes me. I was with my wife and we assumed a roll of 10 would be enough to get at least something for each of us. Mistake #2.
There are a decent selection of vendors with interesting twists on mac and cheese, but the prices are generally way too high and seem to be set such that you are forced to buy two or three ticket rolls - and likely leaving you with one or two leftover tickets that are all but useless as nearly all items cost at least three. Don't except to leave here full without laying down a minimum of $30/person and waiting 30 minutes in each line.
The single ray on sun in this event is the quality of the food itself. We had the butter chicken mac and cheese, samosa mac and cheese, and the mac n' cheese salad and none disappointed, though portion sizes across the board were far to small for the ticket cost.
Overall I would not recommend this event unless your wallet is too heavy and you are looking for ways to lighten it. The event itself seems little more than a blatant cash grab taking advantage of the great interest our city has with food festivals. Don't make the same mistake we did, go in with eyes (and wallet) open.
