Initially we were very excited about going to Bink's after reading all the reviews...
The location and atmosphere are 5 Stars. We sat on the patio next to awesome outdoor fireplace. The menu looked great with locally sourced items. How can you not be excited for the food for a place that does full pig roasts!
The first encounter we had at our table was the manager on duty. He told us our server was backed up and he was going to get our drink and any initial food order we wanted to place (Our reservation was at 6:30pm, the place was barely packed). I would say it took the server about 15-20 to actually come to our table. She was very nice and extremely overwhelmed. We later found out 2 servers called out which sadly our service suffered. This tidbit was over heard when the manager sat another table.
Typical date night we wanted to try as much as we could. We told the manager that we wanted to start with the citrus salad, the curry mussels, and the meatballs. The mussels came out first then the meatballs and the salad came out last. Very odd order for our food to arrive at the table.
Now the taste.... The meatballs were pretty good, tasted like a mix of italian sausage and ground chuck. The highlight of the dish was the blue cheese foam. The curry mussels came to the table in a cute caste iron pot with a piece of focaccia bread. when we opened the pot there were 7 mussles. they were some of the larger mussels I have had in a while. The coconut curry broth was quite tasty. Take note, use your fork to dip the bread into the broth, if you use your hands you might come away smelling like curry the rest of the night. Lastly, the salad showed up at the table. Over all i would say the salad was just okay. That salad was just lacking something extra ordinary.
For dinner we decided to split the pork chop. When the pork chop arrived at the table it was one of the smallest chop I have had for 27 dollars. It was cooked perfectly so the kitchen knew what they were doing. The chop came out with just a small sweet potato puree on the plate. Once again it was 27 dollars for a small entree.
To save time when we got the chop, I asked for a dessert menu....
we waited.... we waited... we waited... and we waited some more. Finally our server came by to ask if we wanted dessert. At that point i just gave her my credit card and smiled and said no dessert for tonight.
When she came back i opened up the check to a 71 dollar bill. Keep in mind we only had a coke and tea to drink. If you want a big meal for your money, this is definitely not the place. You might go home feeling hungry like we did.
Overall I was disappointed the service was so terrible. I understand not everything goes as planned, however we had one table next to us tell an employee.."we haven't been helped yet." The food was good but left us wanting. The atmosphere is top notch for date night. Be prepared to spend at least 100 dollars maybe more with drinks.
Would we go back? verdict: No, unless it is on a Sunday where they have Pig on the Patio: all you can eat roasted pork for 25 dollars per person. Hopefully, then we will leave satisfied.
