| - Foodshare is an amazing organization that promotes healthy diet by providing extremely affordable fresh fruits and vegetables at local drop-off centres. 60% of the produce is locally grown.
I started using their services this year and have noticed a big change in what I'm eating! I can't help but figure out creative ways to incorporate all the fruits and veggies into my diet-it really does force you to eat better! As well, its sooo fun picking up your order, I really appreciate that someone took the time to hand pack a box of healthy foods, just for me. You never know what you are going to get, and I've been very impressed with my boxes so far.
The way Foodshare works, is that you email them to find out the location of your local drop-off area. They have many throughout the city, mine happened to be right across the street from me, so incredibly convenient. They provide you the contact information for the local representative, who emails you a week ahead of time, asking for your order.
The first time I ordered their 'wellness box' for $13. Its a of prepared fruits and veggies-so my carrots were cut up for me, the cantaloupe cleaned out, the corn de-husked, and so on.
The next time, I went with the 'small good food box' also for $13. The amount of produce was almost twice that of the wellness box! The reason I switched to the bigger size is that in my area, I can only get delivery bi-weekly. Having said that, the $13 box is plenty of food for myself over 2 weeks.
The quality of the veggies is good, as is the variety. They also have organic boxes for around $25.
