  • We have tried Annvita Tea Room twice so far, but not because we liked it that much. Without prejudice, tea selection is extensive, more than most places in Toronto can offer (which gives them extra star in my eyes). Annvita carries some very unique tea, with an option to smell it before it is brewed for you. However, and this is a huge HOWEVER for a lot of people, their service leaves quite a lot of room for improvement. It all started with the first visit when we wanted to share a teapot, as I wasn't really in the mood for tea. We were told that due to company policy (!!!) each customer had to order a separate teapot. Does not that defy the whole tea drinking tradition? We were gracefully allowed to share the teapot, as it was our first visit, I guess not to ruin the impression right off the bat. To give Annvita another chance, we brought in some friends a few days later. This time we were offered an explanation that we HAD to order separate teapots due to a SITTING FEE. The orders came out pretty quick, though one of the teas came out cold, yet we all ordered HOT tea and all orders were recapped by the waitress, as some teas do come in hot or cold version. No settlement was offered: a teapot was simply replaced. Our deserts came out shortly after, no complains there. Our dirty plates, though, were sitting on the table until we left; no one even tried to clean them up. The waitress checked upon us only once. So, even if we wanted to order something else, we were given one chance! Take it or leave it! If this place was a small shed around the corner and offered teapots of $5.00, no one would mind. But, when you are paying around $50 for 2 teas (each equals to 1 full teacup) and 2 pastries (!), you expect something more. With a pretention to luxury ambience Annvita absolutely HAS to improve their service. Although I won't be going back even for their teas even if they do, I have had enough. There are still nice places downtown Toronto where you can share tea (as it should be due to the actual tea drinking tradition) and if you are facing a $50 bill for your tea, at least you are offered an impeccable service.
