  • Car bought: 2016 Chevy Malibu LT Sales Rep: Kelly O'Hara Finance Agent: Brian Peck TL;DR Be careful, check all the numbers and paperwork when doing a deal. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The following review is strictly with regards to my experience buying a car here. It has nothing to do with their service dept. The dealership itself is a nice dealership. It is nicely maintained and gives a great first impression. You will be offered water when you arrive and if you have an appointment your name will be on the TV over the receptionists head. Behind there is the waiting lounge with coffee on other odds and ends. Don't forget the vending machine. Working with Kelly was a mixed bag. He is a personable fella and can strike up a quick conversation with just about anyone I am sure. That said, I also had a few issues with him. First, when I first went into the dealership I had gave him some tentative numbers for what I was looking for and I had informed him that I was actively looking at two other dealerships. I ask for 3k-4k for my trade in. Great news! We can do that. When i get the price quote I see it is right at 3k. Yeah that is in my range, but I feel as if he didn't expect me to shop my car around looking for better trade in offers. When I come in to start really negotiating, I counter offer. I ask for 5k for my trade in. I was getting offers close to this from other dealers and this is reasonable for the car I am trading. He pushes back, of course, but he comes back and agrees. At this point, they start running credit. At the beginning of all of this I gave very specific instructions. I was to be the primary on the loan (I had a co-signer). Not maybe. Not if it suites them. I have to be primary on the loan or I walk. After a long wait waiting for financing, a new offer mock up comes by and it shows my new trade value and the payments. Lo and behold, these payments are way high. I ask Kelley why it is so high. I even took out the calculator and showed him how off the payments were and his response? "I don't know, that's just what it is." Side note: If you are buying a car, have the google loan calculator handy on your phone. It will help you check their numbers on the fly. I ask Kelley to get someone who can explain the numbers and Brian pops in sits down with me. I explain my concerns over the math and he assures me that the number is much lower. Great! But why is that not reflected on the sheet. He and Kelly deflects. I don't know if they were trying to rip me off, but this sure felt like it. What happens if I don't know that the price is inaccurate? Do they just fill in the higher price and just pocket profits? I don't believe they were that incapable of doing some basic math. After I agree to move forward back to waiting while the paperwork is prepared. At this point, I am asked to empty my car and produce a title and registration. I do not have either. I had asked before coming in what I needed to bring and I brought what I was asked. lack of attention to little details like this while signing loan documents and picking up debt really annoy me. From here, I am ushered into Brian's office to go over loan details. Remember how I said I need to be primary on the loan? And that I made it 100% clear that was the only way I would do this? When I see paperwork, I am the co-signer on the loan. I have to say, I was quite upset at this point. After spending hours here at the dealership and feeling like they are actively trying to take money out of my pocket in back handed ways I was pretty much done. Brian, who was a good sport about this, was able to talk me out of walking out on the deal and switched all the paperwork how I wanted it. I, again, have to ask why I am having to do this though. Why is a dealership so willing to not listen and try to switch the names on the loan? What is in it for them other then angry customers? Either way, Brian closed the deal and was able to get all my signatures. I drove away with a car I was happy with and with a payment I was happy with. Brian was the MVP of this deal because I was going to leave. So kudos to him
