| - What a disappointment. I received a "super stress melter" package as a gift upon the birth of my son and was excited to finally be able to get away for long enough to use it. The ambiance, facilities, value, and courtesy of the reception staff were very poor compared to other spas I have been to.
I was greeted by a somewhat harried woman who was busy on the phone, handed a clip board, and sent to fill out a questionnaire which seemed to be mostly geared towards marketing. The few relevant questions (medication, injuries etc) I was asked by the MT again using a different form, which confirmed my suspicion. No biggie but a little annoying. I found the decor really charming and romantic at first, but half of the vaulted ceiling is covered with plastic and plywood and overall everything just seemed worn and stuffy after awhile (and wow, was I there for a while!) It was a beautiful summer day, but the atmosphere almost felt gloomy, oppressive, and stale to the point that I half expected to walk out into a winter evening. The changing area is a large shared space and open door- the changing "room" was covered only with a sheer, gaping curtain. Ok, odd, but I've been to spas with wide open locker areas so, fine. The MT Regina was very professional and provided a great massage. I was then sent to a small dark lounge upstairs designed to resemble a bedroom. I thought it was cozy for about 10 minutes, but was left waiting for what seemed like forever and it was really too dark to read any of the ancient magazines or books they provided. A fellow patron was there and talking loudly on her cell phone about the blackheads she had just had extracted. Awesome. Not under the spa's control, but it would have been much less intrusive if we weren't stuck in this small, dark, strangely bedroom-y room together at the top of a dead end stair case. The package description claims that the treatments take 2.5 hrs but I was there for 3.5 at least for only a facial and 60 minute massage. I finally had my facial, and the aesthetician was very sweet and thorough. I haven't had a facial before to compare so I can't say much, but she was great as far as personality and professionalism. Then I mention that I have a pedicure next because when I called to schedule the week before and asked about the package, I was told specifically "it's a massage, facial, and PEDICURE." I was quite surprised and really disappointed to hear that the hot plastic bags full of lotion I had my feet jammed into during the massage was considered my "detox foot treatment" and there was no pedicure to be had. The experience ended with two men at the checkout area barely making eye contact with me as they asked for my money and sent me on my way- I felt very uncomfortable. They were busy talking about scheduling and business. I was surprised enough at the cost vs what I felt I had received that I looked into the package more. The spa's site claims that it's a package with three treatments which would be over $300 and lists prices ($50 for the mud bag pedi, if you're curious) - but NONE of the treatments seem to exist and certainly not at the astronomical prices she claims ($180 for a standard seeming facial? really?). I got really curious and tried to verify the national awards she claims and couldn't. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I'd never go back, although the actual services were good.
