One must wonder if race plays a part in the way one is treated. Especially when noticing how white students were treated by the tennis coach. With my daughter and her friend taking recreational tennis lessons we expected respect and equal treatment. Laughing at them and belittling them was not acceptable, but I watched each lesson in disbelief. I analyzed whether I was over reacting, perhaps coaches have to be a little hard on students to draw skills from them. But again when you notice how others are treated differently when they are paying the same fee, race must have something to do with it. We recently came to tennis practice we had a different coach. The regular coach was giving lessons to another student. He did not communicate the change. When I approached him about the ineffective communication on his part he was disrespectful, dismissive, and belittling. What a horrible depiction of tennis-- it's not a white man's sport. If anything a community center should be intentional about teaching tennis skills to all children because they may champion the next Venus or Serena.
