The two stars I'm giving are primary for the mediocre food and the chef. The service was great- so 5 stars for that.
I only eat pasta that is made fresh and in house, and I can 100% say this place is overpriced basic bitch pasta. The texture of the squid ink pasta was largely unimpressive, it could have been grocery store linguine. I ordered the squid ink pasta not for the novelty (I've had it before) but for the seafood preparation that went along with it, as they have a rigid pasta regimen. It had lobster and calamari with it. The seafood was perfectly cooked, but unfortunately the chef refused to make a different sauce to go with pasta.
Typically, I would be ok with that, that is.. if the dish is going to blow my mind. But..if I'm being honest, the regular old red sauce tasted like Classico straight off the shelf of my local Safeway. I'm not sure what the stink was with regard to not switching up the sauce...it might have saved the mundane texture of the pasta.
I'm not sure if maybe the other pastas actually taste like fresh, made in-house pasta? this tasted like maybe it was made a week or two prior..fresh pasta should be soft but al dente with just the right amount of silky chewiness. this pasta was a bit too dense and hard for me believe it is made daily in house. If it is, I am content to know that I can get the same dish by just hitting up bucca di Beppo for less money. And they'll probably make it with the sauce I want.
Won't be going back to this place! Hoping to find a better local joint for good, fresh made pasta.
