| - Highly recommend you check it out!! Where do I start? This place is very deceptive at first glance. As you drive by on the 303, the zoo doesn't seem like much. Boy, were we off the mark! It is larger than the Phoenix Zoo and they are adding another 46 acres and new animals this year! I saw animals and creatures I've never seen before. They say it's 2.5 miles square. I thought it was a little zoo from what I could see from the freeway. Thought we would be done in 2-3 hrs! Word of caution choose a day under 100° and be prepared on ways to stay cool.
I'll start with Dillon's. A friend recommended this restaurant. Said it was really cool inside and there was a shark tank inside. I was thinking Rain Forest Cafe Style aquariums around the room at best. The 'tank' was a full sized aquarium with many sharks to view. We were lucky enough to be there when two guys dropped in to check the tank and clean the inside glass. It was really cool. The food was good, loved the wings. Spicy teriyaki wings were hot, but you couldn't stop eating them. The drink menu has a large variety. Oh, and the bar area was cool too. You get a glimpse of a couple aquarium exhibits including the Albino Crocodile. I want to go back to sit in the bar. Staff were helpful and friendly.
The Zoo & Aquarium (and rides!!!): Wow!! We purchased an annual pass because it is 10 minutes from my house. I am so glad we did. Staff are helpful, friendly and informative. Regina was wonderful in the aquariums. We went 2 days and only saw 2/3 of all there is to see! I have to say it was really hot, like 118° and 120°, so we were really slower than normal. Day 1 we managed the Aquariums and as far as the birds exhibits in the front and the spider monkeys near the Tigers (near the Northern Ave exit.) The buildings are very well planned out and spaced out to allow you time enough to enjoy being out when it's hot, then find a building to go in and cool off (with drinking fountains!) We were unprepared for how long it would take. Didn't bring enough water, sun protection etc. Day 2 we were smarter. We arrived early, brought ice water, layered shirts (soaked them multiple times), spray bottles, sun block, umbrellas and rode a wet ride first thing. Still only got to the Safari area and needed to go home and cool off. Probably could see the whole zoo (on cool days) in 2 days if you arrive early. Looking forward to going back to finish our exploration.
