| - As soon as I entered the place, it smelled like home! This is the real deal. I'm a southern barbecue connoisseur, raised on Deep South barbecue and refined by years of living in Nashville, which excels in perfect barbecue.
So, at a new barbecue place, I'll always test the pulled pork sandwich. The true southern test is if the sandwich comes with coleslaw on top of the pork in the sandwich. This place didn't do this! But, upon request, they did add it - but a star is removed for not making this standard. People can't experience a real pulled pork sandwich w/o coleslaw on top.
Overall, the pulled pork has a great smoky flavor with the required tenderness and no stringiness. Some 'ends' were included - the charred, chewy ends, which is exactly right. The coleslaw was also excellent, as was the standard sauce. I also had a side of potato salad. I'll admit that there are many types of potato salad, none of which can compare to my mother's, but this potato salad was really, really good.
Next visit requires a taste of the ribs. I hear they are excellent.
You can't go wrong here, if you're looking for authentic southern barbecue.
