| - Honey Salt has all the fanfare, decor, and even clientele of a bougie LA brunch spot. Even the menu sounds amazing and appetizing. However, the brunch food fell quite short of expectations.
While I loved the open kitchen and the breakfast and brunch offerings, I was taken aback by how flavorless my meal was. We ended up trying the $10 avocado toast with local tomato and arugula. It was basically two pieces of burnt toast cut in half spread with avocado with halved cherry tomatoes and a sprig of arugula. Let's face it, overpriced avocado toast just isn't the same if it's not in California. Unfortunately, it was nothing special.
For my meal, I tried the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich which sounded amazing. The chicken came out somewhat dry and the slaw was flavorless. I couldn't taste the house dressing at all. If only the chicken had been dressed with something more flavorful, like maybe some honey or salt. What a revelation that would have been!
The house corned beef & hash featured cubed beef with roasted vegetables and two poached eggs. A pet peeve for anyone eating breakfast should be poached eggs that are overcooked. One egg was runny, while the other yolk was rock solid. Again, the dish lacked any seasoning and was improved only with tabasco sauce.
The concept and menu of honey salt is great, but the execution is severely lacking.
