It was early spring and we had a nice stroll along Willy Street to Lao Laan-Xang. The cozy warm restaurant with the aroma of peanut sauce and spices was very welcoming as it was still a little chilly outside.
We were seated promptly (a Saturday night, around 8pm) and the owner's daughter was very helpful in recommending popular items from the menu. The food was amazing! We each had a pork egg roll as an appetizer- the best egg roll, said my friend.. and I agree!
For entrees we had the squash curry and papaya salad. The curry is thick and flavorful, the squash was melt-in-your-mouth creamy goodness. I liked it so much that I brought home leftovers but upon reaching home, started thinking about it and finished eating my leftovers in bed! We were also very satisfied with the papaya salad. The entree version of it came with sticky rice (in an adorable basket!) and two big pieces of fried chicken- it was good fried chicken, crispy on the outside and still moist inside. For both dishes, we chose the "careful" spice level. I consider myself able to handle spicy food and this was just the right amount of heat.
Service was good too. The owner was very friendly and even though we were there quite late and at one point were the only ones there, told us to take our time dining. Great night, great dinner, I'll come back again!
