We have frequented this bakery more times than I think necessary over the course of several years. I remember stumbling upon this place and immediately felt giddy at all the cupcakes and the creativity in flavoring. Though the names of the cupcakes have long been forgotten, I specifically remember ordering a red velvet, a carrot cake, and a vanilla cupcake because let's face it, if your a skeptic like me...those are always your best bet so you are certain of what you're working with.
Delighted! Absolutely delighted! Okay, yes the icing was pretty sweet but back then my taste buds could handle it. Cupcakes were moist. Why wouldn't I go back? Then there was the time my friend ordered a cake from them. Delish! Moist! Super sweet but by this point I'm well aware that this might be Retro's thing. Could've swore the cake was like lemon with some raspberry filling. Well, anyway...
The husband's employer relocated to the vicinity so one day I go in to order a bunch of cupcakes. I think at this point the names are pointless because we ordered a dozen so safe to say...it probably didn't matter the flavor. And literally almost each cupcake crumbled and this time....twas as if the baker tripped and poured in two cups more sugar than the norm. My husband felt disappointed (however he was never really a fan), and my kids were on the sidewalk biting into their cupcake that was crumbling on to the ground. My cupcake was pretty dry and I could've used a pressure hose to wash that down. Tad dramatic, but I'll leave the imagery of someone using a pressure hose filled with milk to wash their throat down.
Fast forward, apparently ownership shifted a bit and I think it might've explain the fail of our cupcakes. I also had bought their basic cakes and really wished I had just gone.to Albertsons bakery for it. It just feels like everything is just sugar overload that the flavors become a second thought.
Friendly has always been friendly which I appreciate. If I ever walked-by and felt like.giving it a shot for the 9th time...sure. But, I no longer will go out my way for it as there are better options for me.
But...give it your own go. Definitely kid and stroller friendly.
Enjoy!
