  • A great setting, lovely views and brilliant service were all let down by my food. In any restaurant the food should be number 1. The only reason I am giving it 2 stars is that my wife's main course was delicious. Started the night with a drink on the balcony, which was beautifully set and really nicely lit by gas lamps. Moving to the dining room, I could tell that every table in the main room had a great view and the atmosphere was excellent. Very little pretentious, just friendly and helpful staff. To start I had steamed mussels and clams to start, flavoured with lemon grass. I found the dish quite bland, with was marginally improved by the addition of a little salt. I also think the description is misleading, I ordered steamed mussels and clams but what I got was more akin to a creamy soup with mussels and clams. My wife had the foie gras and truffle mousse, it was tasty enough but was badly proportioned. The dish was accompanied with cherries and toasted bread, nowhere near enough of either to fully enjoy the sweet cherry, with the salty foie gras and the crunchy toast. One slice of the toast was badly burned on one side, forgivable normally but it was just another little mistake that threw the dish off. For my main I ordered the duck, which was a combination of breast and confit leg. It was terrible, simply awful. The only flavour from the dish was soya sauce and the confit leg was dry, stringy and looked burnt on one side. I should have sent it back, I am upset that i didn't. My wife had butterfish with a miso crust, which as i said earlier was extremely tasty. The crust gave the fish a lovely zing. I am probably being picky at this point, but as a seafood lover I think the fish was ever so slightly over done. For dessert we shared the goat cheesecake. It was tasty enough, nothing special though. At least I enjoyed eating it unlike my other courses. I'll probably give the place one more chance, for lunch. Mainly to see if I had hit it on a bad night and enjoy the view during the daytime. Next time I won't be so shy about returning bad food.
