This is my favorite place to visit and take people that have never been here every time I am in Vegas. We were on a group trip and I couldn't believe that not one of our group members that I was with had been here even thought they had been to Vegas at least a dozen times. I would recommend purchasing your tickets on-line especially if you have a group because they do cap off each hour with a certain number of guests. They have free parking next to them in a lot if you need it and they also rent out for weddings and events if that is your fancy!
The museum is run by a Non-Profit and all proceeds go to running the museum from ticket sales and the gift shop. Make sure you arrive a few minutes early to check in and get your tickets and line up for the tour. The tour leaves on time but, if you are late they still let you take the tour but, you will miss some information if you are late.
I have taken a daytime tour and a night tour but, I prefer the night tour for the beautiful pictures and seeing them "lit" up. They don't light up all the signs because most of them don't work and even if they did you would need sunglasses and probably get a sun burn from them.
There is so much history here and most of the signs are on permanent loan from private investors who have procured them. The La Concha lobby structure was moved from it's original location and now serves as the ticket check in and gift shop. It was designed by the first prominent African American architect.
On the tour they will tell you all about the history of the signs and the hotels they were attached to as well as how and why people used to try to make casino signs look more aged than they were. It really gives you a glimpse into the past of Las Vegas history as well as marketing history which always interests me. It's an informative tour that is also fun and visually stimulating.
There is plenty of opportunities to take pictures and the guides give you breaks after every few sections to ask questions as well as wait for the group to pass by to take pictures without anyone in them. I always make sure to purchase something from the gift shop to support their cause because I think we can all agree we could do more to support the arts in every community even when we are traveling. Plus I just love their mission and the fact that they don't want to restore every sign to the original glory because leaving it as is tells so much more of a story sometimes.
