| - Man, this place used to seem so huge. I remember seeing wrestling matches here as a kid.
Tonight was my second time here this year. In January it was AC/DC, tonight it was another group of elder gods...KISS.
Yes, my senses were shattered. Paul Stanley said to pretend it was a church, even though he's Jewish.
What to say about this place?
The food, like at every other venue, is overpriced.
The staff's really cool though, ushers always ready to help you find your seat.
Other than that (and I know it was state-of-the-art of the time, not to mention a reminder of the crime of urban renewal), this place really isn't all that much to get excited about. It's what has happened inside the Igloo that matters. Hence my 3-star review. For the longest time, this was pretty much the only place in town to see a big concert. Now we have the Petersen Events Center, the Post-Gazette Pavillion, The AJ Palumbo Center -- anonymous venues one and all.
I hope that whatever replaces the Arena has some sort of character; The Mellon Arena never really had it.
But I mean, who goes to a hockey rink to think about what the place is like?
KISS could play at a landfill and people would go. It's the Mellon Arena. What else are ya gonna do?
