I have greatly enjoyed this clinic in the past. So when I returned home to see that my puppy, their existing client, shredded a full bag of diatomaceous earth all over himself, I called them immediately.
"(Salutation) Is this an emergency?"
"I don't know yet if it is an emergency!"
"Okay." (put on hold)
(over three minutes)
(I hung up)
I called back twice and got voice mail.
Third time:
"(Salutation) Is this an emergency?"
"I don't know, and I don't want you to put me on hold again! My dog got into something."
"Okay. What's going on?"
"He shredded a bag of diatomaceous earth on himself. Is this dangerous?"
"You will have to call Poison Control."
"But...you're a vet. Can't you ask a doctor?"
"We would just have to call Poison Control."
(starts to give me contact information for PC)
"It's a common household chemical! You can't just ask someone? You can't TRY? You just lost a client."
So I called ASPCA Poison Control and they wanted $65 to answer my question. If I have to take the dog to the vet, I won't have that money after paying ASPCA. I called Banner Health Poison Control and while they do not treat dogs, they did believe that it wouldn't be a problem.
The entire collective of trained professionals in that office and they didn't have an answer to this question? Putting obviously panicked people on hold if they were unsure their issue was an emergency? Passing the buck??
The web page does not provide an e-mail address. This is the only reason why I am Yelping this complaint. Part of me doesn't want to leave the practice, but you know the adage that when someone shows you who they are - pay attention.
