| - We live in Denver and come to visit Scottsdale once or twice a year. Dinner at Paul Martin's is always required, and we've never been disappointed. Contrary to what another review said, we've always found the service staff friendly and welcoming. Our latest dinner there was after a harrowing round of golf, and settling down in a booth felt like coming home. One of the features you have to notice is the quality of the butcher-block table tops. They practically glow, they're so clean.
We started by sharing a grilled artichoke with aioli (sp?) sauce. I don't know how they make this dish so good, but it's better here than any others we've tried--and we've tried it often!
My husband had the rib plate, with 8 big, meaty ribs and sides of coleslaw and french fries. He practically licked the plate!
I had the Chesapeake Bay salmon, but put in a special request for spinach as a side, rather than couscous. I got the dish just as ordered, and it was delicious. The salmon was perfectly cooked, with a light onion sauce that was great.
For dessert we shared 3 scoops of ice cream with shortbread cookies. The only shortcoming of the meal was the caramel ice cream, which was low on caramel taste or feel. The chocolate and vanilla flavors were great, and the shortbread cookies wonderful.
Throughout our meal, our waitress and the rest of the waitstaff were cheerful and attentive.
Yes, it was a pricey meal, but less than we had expected, and worth every cent of it! It remains our Phoenix favorite!
